Reminder – families need to be out of the northern playground by 3:15pm because Lady Gowrie hires the area for After-School Care. If you want to continue with your conversations and play, you are welcome to head to the southern yard. Children must be supervised by an adult as our duty-of-care finishes at 3:15.
Also, Lady Gowrie run before school care so if you do need to drop you child off before 8:30, please organise to put them into this service. If they don’t get enough students to make the service viable, we may not be able to offer it in 2025.
Duty of care begins at 8:30am and finishes at 3:15pm
School Cross Country
Last Wednesday all classes attended the School Cross Country at Sandown Park. This is a wonderful whole school experience and all the students who ran did their best. We also had some Y5&6 students who helped out with the supervision of the running and our Sports leaders ran the warm-up and supported our younger students in their races.
Well done to Mr Nick Corney and Mr Steve Jeffrey for their planning and running of the event as well as the parents who helped us out on the day.
National Simultaneous Story Telling day
Today is National Simultaneous Story Telling day and this year’s book is Bowerbird Blues by Auka Parker. The Kinders spent the day celebrating books and reading by visiting Fullers’ bookshop where they were able to each choose a book to take home compliments of Fullers. The whole school came together to read the book before lunch. Reading together is a wonderful way to foster a love of reading.
Our wonderful Canteen Manager also works with students to increase their cooking skills.
Share your thoughts on school attendance -
Help us better understand any barriers that may be in the way, and what supports are needed to help with getting to school.
The Department for Education, Children and Young People is doing statewide consultation on school attendance. 3P Advisory is independently running the consultation. Your answers are confidential, and you won’t be identified.
We want to hear from you.You can take part in an online survey, share or vote for suggestions, or join an online drop-in session via the 3P website. The survey takes approximately 10 minutes to complete.
You can also share your thoughts about what you like or don’t like about our Every school day matters campaign.
As a parent or carer, please have your say. Please encourage your child/ren, too.
Every piece of feedback counts. Thanks for helping shape future DECYP initiatives, school-based engagement strategies and public awareness campaigns.
Moderation Day
This year we are having our Moderation Day on Friday 7th June. This day is where teachers look at student work samples from their own and other schools to ensure consistency with rating and assessing across schools. This is a very important opportunity and this year we are moderating with Waimea Heights Primary School.
Parent Tip –
Have you ever found yourself in the avocado conundrum? 🥑 Well, I've got a great story about avocados, talking back, and the magic that can happen when we handle these situations with grace.
Here's what happened:
My friend’s daughter asked for an avocado snack. My friend picked up the avocado and gave it a gentle squeeze. She decided, 'It's not ready yet.' And then, it happened—the dramatic sigh, the eye roll 🙄, and the daughter's daring accusation, "You’re lying! You didn’t even look!" But here's where it gets interesting: My friend didn't just brush off the talking back. Instead, in her kind and firm voice, she said: "I know you're disappointed – you really wanted avocado. But talking to me like that is not OK." Instead of shutting down her daughter with anger, she modelled respectful communication. And that's when the magic happened: "Yeah," her daughter admitted. "I'm sorry. I just really wanted avocado." My friend gracefully accepted the apology and offered an alternative snack. They enjoyed it while chatting about her daughter's school day, turning what could have been a power struggle into a connection moment. So, the next time your child talks back, don't let anger take the wheel. Take a deep breath and remember that their misbehaviour is either an unmet need or an undeveloped skill. We can assertively address rudeness while modelling respect.

Cross Country 2024
The Cross Country is a yearly event spanning distances between up to 2.7km. The students participated wonderfully, some jogging together, others by themselves. We all had a great time at the Cross Country.
On the 15th of May, all students caught buses to Sandown Park in Sandy Bay, arriving at about 9:15am. They were all full of energy. Some were nervous, others eager to burst across the trail. Teachers and students set up huge picnic mats for each grade and students sat down, ready for what was to come.
First, some Year 6 students did the whole school warmup. The students jumped, danced, and smiled as the Year 6s instructed them clearly. They also sang for Ms Waldon, as it was her birthday.
All the students also got to do a walk of their respective tracks with their classes, learning the directions and following the boundaries.
Grade 1 & 2: 700 metres
The races soon began as everyone ran and cheered each other on as the Year 2s and 1s took their positions, running across the track quickly.
Preps & Kinders: 300 metres
The Preps and Kinders went next, running a shorter distance. Some Grade 6s ran with the Kinders and Preps to enthusiastically help them along the way. They laughed happily as they ran with the Year 6 leaders.
Grade 5 & 6: 2.5km
The upper grades went next. Grade 5s followed by 6s burst forward as the word ‘GO!’ was called. Most started off with a jog, then sprinted the final leg. One segment was the beach, where the students found themselves being slowed down in the deep sand. They persevered and finished their race.
Grade 3 & 4: 2.3km
Last were the Year 3s, who started with a bang. Speeding across the grass, they tried their best and had fun as well as earning points for their houses.
All the students had a wonderful time, supporting each other, shouting, and cheering. All did their best, and they had a lot of fun. As they boarded the buses back to school, they celebrated. The result was a close win for Albuera.
All this wouldn’t have been possible without the teachers, especially Mr. Corney. Thank you to all the teachers for a wonderful Cross Country 2024! Attached are some photos taken by the Media Team.

We aim to keep our school as nut-free as possible to keep our students safe.

The medications require a signed doctor/pharmacist as well as parent permission form (these forms are available in the Forms and Documents panel in the newsletter or at the office). The medication is also to be in the original packaging so that staff know what they are administering. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.
