Principals Report
New Playground upgrades–
We finally have our new playground updates done. The School Association have offered to contribute to this upgrade with money raised from last year’s fair. The students had the opportunity to vote on the types of playground activities they would like. As you can see in the photos, they are already enjoying them.
Principals’ Conference – Capturing Hearts and Minds, Shaping Futures.
A couple of weeks ago I spent a few days in Devonport at an inspirational conference for principals and Leaders. I was inspired be motivational talks on courage and making decisions that impact our lives and others as well as hearing about Student Agency and how it can improve student outcomes. We were also privileged to have the keynote address by Kate Ceberano where we heard about her life and got to hear about the background to some of her songs which she then sang to us. I returned motivated and invigorated.
Diversity and Inclusion–
We have been sharing some information about our wonderfully diverse school. The other day I was reading and came across an article examining the benefits to our students without additional needs to be learning in environments with students with disabilities. At times some of us can question this as some of our students can be distracting and need extra support with learning and social skills. It is powerful what we can learn from each other. Below is a quote from the study:
How Inclusive Interactive Learning Environments Benefit Students Without Special Needs
Silvia Molina Roldán,1 Jesús Marauri,2 Adriana Aubert,3,* and Ramon Flecha3
‘The aim of this study is to identify the impact on students without Special Educational Needs (SEN) of being educated with students with SEN in shared, inclusive, interactive learning environments. …
The results show that students without SEN benefit from participating in interactive learning activities with peers with SEN in different ways:
(1) they learn to respect others, accept differences, and acknowledge different abilities, thereby creating opportunities for new friendships to develop;
(2) they learn about abilities related to helping others participate and learn, to be patient and to gain the satisfaction in helping others learn and behave better; and
(3) they benefit from the cognitive effort required to explain themselves and from the contributions of peers with SEN from which they can learn.’

It is a Department of Education requirement that all medications to be taken by students during the school day are to be passed into the office or teacher in charge of an excursion or camp. The medications require a signed doctor/pharmacist as well as parent permission form (these forms are available in the Forms and Documents panel in the newsletter or at the office). The medication is also to be in the original packaging so that staff know what they are administering. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.
Medical Action Plans
Every child at Albuera Street Primary with a medical condition needs to supply an updated medical plan to the school each year, especially those with Anaphylaxis and Asthma. Staff from Albuera have been trained in Anaphylaxis using EpiPens and also in Ventolin administration for Asthma. If you are new to the school and your child has a medical condition please come into the office and collect an appropriate action plan form, or if you just have questions please don’t hesitate to phone the school.
