ASK Cultural Exchange
Our school was invited to be involved in a cultural exchange with students from China who were visiting Tasmania to create and perform a shadow puppet show about the journey of the curlew (mutton bird) that migrates from China to Tasmania each year to represent the connection between our two homes. This was being done with the support of Terrapin Puppet Theatre. The students, aged between 9 and 13, spent an afternoon visiting our school to interview students who had volunteers to be part of the program. The children shared ideas and learnt about each other, discovering similarities and differences. A week later, we watched the performance at the Peacock Theatre. In seven days, this group of students had researched, created, rehearsed and performed their play, most of which was in English, not their first language. We were very impressed and were privileged to be included in their endeavour.
Peace Pole
Our Peace Pole Ceremony went well being hosted by Year 6 students and our choir sang Stand By Me. We are reminded to always choose kindness when interacting with others.
Science Week
We have been celebrating Science week by welcoming parents into our school to share their scientific knowledge and skills. Thank you to all of you who volunteered your time to visit with us and inspire our students.
Learner Assets -
As a school we continue to explore what our Learner Assets mean. Students have been working together to create posters that explain how we need to behave and think in order to best use our LA of being a Thinker, Researcher, Collaborator, Communicator and Contributor.
Mini-Olympics –
Last Wednesday we had a whole school fun Mini-Olympics where students were grouped with their buddies and rotated through various activities loosely connected to Olympic activities. Thank you to Mr Corney and the Y6 Leaders for their planning and coordination of the session. It was lots of fun.
Students have also been engaging in learning about the history, the sports and monitoring the medal tally. They have also been watching many of the races. On Friday we watched the 4 X 100m Relay Race as a whole school during assembly, to support Jacob Despard and the team and watch them break the Australian record. What a great race!
Book Week –
Our Book Week parade will be on Wednesday 21st August at 9:10am
If you are interested in coming into school to read to your child’s class, please contact your child’s class teacher.

Shell Paintings from Sea Country – Kinder Pears
On Wednesday 31st July 2024 Kinder Pears and Kinder Apples went to Blinking Billy Beach and explored our local Sea Country. When we came back to class we carefully looked at shells and drew and painted them and we thought about what names they could be called based on their colour and shape. We hope you enjoy our Shell Paintings.

Volunteers Needed
Volunteering is one of the most rewarding activities you can do. Volunteering at your child’s school is even more so. By volunteering, you are contributing to school’s ability to provide a strong, diverse, dynamic community which facilitates a child’s ability to learn and fosters a strong sense of worth. Children love seeing their parent or other significant adult at the school helping and the school loves seeing parents/ grandparents/ carers here.
Each week over half the school will order either recess or lunch or both from the canteen. I cannot service this demand without the kind assistance of parent helpers. An ability to cook is not required as there are numerous jobs that need to be under taken such as chopping vegetables, bagging popcorn and serving up. Hours at typically from 9 in the morning (after you drop your kids off) until around 2 in the afternoon. Shorter time periods can be organised.
If you can assist, please text Caron on 0417 559 920 or the office.

Student Medications
It is a Department of Education requirement that all medications to be taken by students during the school day are to be passed into the office or teacher in charge of an excursion or camp. The medications require a signed doctor/pharmacist as well as parent permission form (these forms are available in the Forms and Documents panel in the newsletter or at the office). The medication is also to be in the original packaging so that staff know what they are administering. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.
Medical Action Plans
Every child at Albuera Street Primary with a medical condition needs to supply an updated medical plan to the school each year, especially those with Anaphylaxis and Asthma. Staff from Albuera have been trained in Anaphylaxis using EpiPens and also in Ventolin administration for Asthma. If you are new to the school and your child has a medical condition please come into the office and collect an appropriate action plan form, or if you just have questions please don’t hesitate to phone the school.
WWVP Card & Mandatory Reporting
The Department requirement is that you must present your RWVP card EVERY time you sign in.
Information for those who need to apply for WWVP card
