Principals Report

Welcome back
No hats needed this term
Reminder: Every school day matters
As Term 2 kicks off, we wanted to share a timely reminder about the importance of school attendance.
We love seeing your child at school every day – it’s the best place for them to learn and grow. It’s a chance to be around their friends, learn new things (including life skills), spark their curiosity and have fun.
Term 2 is packed with exciting things your child won’t want to miss:
- Whole school Cross Country – 14th May
- National Simultaneous story telling day – 21st May
- Class excursions
- Assemblies
- Learn to Swim lessons for Years 3-5 23rd June- 4th July
- NAIDOC Activities
- And all the daily learning activities students engage in.
For tips on creating positive attendance habits, visit the Anything can happen website.
Please talk to us if you’re having trouble getting your child to school. We’re here to help and support is available.
Buddy Play Day
Play is essential to learning and can take many shapes and forms. It is through play that children learn to solve problems, take risks, try new things, experiment, socialise, explore, build fine and gross motor skills, understand cause and effect and so much more. In the last week of term, we had a buddy class play day where classes joined with their buddies and moved from station to station enjoying sensory play with playdough and cloud dough, dress ups, skipping and elastics, building with Lego and other objects and playing with balls and the parachute.
Lisa Ford the psychologist who ran the parent session on Friendships, said that for older students to play with younger students it benefits the older students even more as paying with peers the older you get tend to become more competitive, but playing with younger students allows them to chance to be less self-conscious and free to just be and play without pressure.
In the words of Max – ‘This has been the best day ever!’

Student Medications
It is a Department of Education requirement that all medications to be taken by students during the school day are to be passed into the office or teacher in charge of an excursion or camp. The medications require a signed doctor/pharmacist as well as parent permission form (these forms are available in the Forms and Documents panel in the newsletter or at the office). The medication is also to be in the original packaging so that staff know what they are administering. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.
Medical Action Plans
Every child at Albuera Street Primary with a medical condition needs to supply an updated medical plan to the school each year, especially those with Anaphylaxis and Asthma. Staff from Albuera have been trained in Anaphylaxis using EpiPens and also in Ventolin administration for Asthma. If you are new to the school and your child has a medical condition please come into the office and collect an appropriate action plan form, or if you just have questions please don’t hesitate to phone the school.
