It is always special to be able to have out school Remembrance ceremony at Anglesea Barracks. I’d like to thank Lieutenant Jay Parker for co-ordinating the day and for giving the address. Thank you to the families who sent flowers and everyone who attended.
Hutchins School Play
Last Wednesday we had the Y9 Drama group from Hutchins perform two plays four us – Peter Pan and The Pied Piper. This was the first time the Hutchins students had performed in front of an audience. I asked some of our students what they had thought of it, and they informed me that it was very good and funny with great acting, dancing and singing.
Fire Education
Last week all classes received session informing them what to do in case of a fire and how to keep safe. This is an important part of the curriculum, and we appreciate Tas Fire for providing these comprehensive lessons for the students in Tasmania.
Classes for 2025 –
In 2025 we will have 2x Kinder, a Prep class, P/1, 1/2 and a Y2, 3x 3/4 classes and 2x 5/6.
Our Department for Education, Children and Young People, have a policy of requiring teachers to move, often related to length of service at a school. At the end of this year, we will farewell Mr Grant Williams who will be going to Moonah Primary. We welcome Ms Sarah Wilson, who visited the school on Monday, to the 3/4 team.
School Fair
What a wonderful day we had for the school fair. We need to thank the fair co-ordinators, the volunteers, the people who donated and the fair sponsors. It was all hands-on deck from 9:30am setting everything up. We were lucky with the weather, and it was great to see so many people there. The AUKs, choir, acapella group and marimba group all performed at the exceptional standard we have come to expect from our students. Fairy floss and snow cones were popular with the kids and adults alike.

Parent Tip – supporting our students to persevere and succeed.
On a glorious day, prep/1 Snakes and prep/1 Tigers walked to the Hobart Rivulet as part of our Biological Science inquiries.
We started our nature studies with an Acknowledgement of Country around a beautiful Shaddy tree.
Our group had a quick stop at South Hobart Primary School where we were welcomed to have a fruit/toilet break. During our walk we discussed and identified different built, managed and natural environments. However, we were very secretly excited and keen to locate the platypus at our destination in the Cascade Gardens.
We had lunch and explored the gardens, climbing trees and conducting our plant observations and searching for the elusive platypus.
After starting to think we would never see it, we finally had a sighting in the dam. What an amazing experience we had sitting along the fence and watching the cheeky platypus putting on a lovely display.
A big thank you to Caroline for organising and planning the walk and to the families and support staff that helped us get there safely. A most wonderful and memorable experience was had by all.
Miri and Caroline

We have a number of students in our school who are allergic to nuts and nut products. Exposure to nuts can trigger an allergic reaction and be life-threatening for these students, so please avoid sending nuts or nut based products to school. We aim to keep our school as nut-free as possible to keep our students safe.

It is a Department of Education requirement that all medications to be taken by students during the school day are to be passed into the office or teacher in charge of an excursion or camp. The medications require a signed doctor/pharmacist as well as parent permission form (these forms are available in the Forms and Documents panel in the newsletter or at the office). The medication is also to be in the original packaging so that staff know what they are administering. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.
Every child at Albuera Street Primary with a medical condition needs to supply an updated medical plan to the school each year, especially those with Anaphylaxis and Asthma. Staff from Albuera have been trained in Anaphylaxis using EpiPens and also in Ventolin administration for Asthma. If you are new to the school and your child has a medical condition please come into the office and collect an appropriate action plan form, or if you just have questions please don’t hesitate to phone the school.
